Summer Staff Employment

The following 12 week (June - August) salaried positions are needed each summer for our Camp program.

Cabin Counselors:

Requirements:
19 years old or completion of 1 year of college
Physically and mentally capable to handle the care of 8 campers

Camping experience recommended
Ability to supervise and work with volunteers effectively
Recommended:
Red Cross C.P.R. Certification
General Function:
T
o live in a cabin with 8 campers and 3 adult counselors and help to create a safe, happy and memorable camping experience. If medical care is needed, you are responsible for taking the camper to the infirmary.

Unit Leaders:

Requirements:

19 years old or completion of 1 year of college
Physically and mentally capable to handle the care of 8 campers
Camping experience recommended
Red Cross C.P.R. Certification
Oversight of the operations of 3 cabins (12 staff & 24 campers)
Ability to supervise and work with volunteers effectively
General Function:
To live in a cabin with 8 campers and 3 adult counselors and help to create a safe, happy and memorable camping experience. If medical care is needed, you are responsible for taking the camper to the infirmary.  

Program Specialists or Program Staff:

Requirements:
20 years old (Program Staff - 19 years old)
Experience related to field
Red Cross C.P.R. Certification required in certain program areas
Ability to supervise and work with volunteers effectively
General Function:
To assist in the running of special programs designed by the Camp. The program areas are: 
   Woodworking             *Swimming        Theatre 
   Sports & Recreation  **Horse Barn       Exploration 
   Video                          Photography    Discovery Zone
**Adventure               **Archery            Driver
   Arts & Crafts             *Fishing & Boating

 * Area requires certification
**Area requires provided in-house training  

Director of Entertainment:

Requirements:
19 years old or completion of 1 year of college
Physically and mentally capable to handle the care of campers
Camping experience recommended
Choose weekly Camp themes
Oversee all-Camp evening activities
Facilitate Camp meals, Dining Hall announcements and Camp songs
Function as a part of the Summer Leadership team
General Function:
Plan and organize meals and evening Camp activities for the Entire camp. Work with Program Specialists and Staff to provide safe and fun Camp events. Work with outside vendors and visitors associated with Camp entertainment. Function as a member of the Summer Leadership team.

LIT Coordinator (Leader in Training Coordinator):

Requirements:
19 years old or completion of 1 year of college
Physically and mentally capable to handle the care of campers
Camping experience recommended
Interview and hire LIT candidates in the Spring
Organize and plan leadership workshops for LITs
Work with LITs and their mentors
Function as a part of the Summer Leadership team
General Function:
Review, interview and hire former campers (16-18 years of age) for our Hole in the Wall Leader in Training (LIT) program. Plan and implement a program designed to develop Leadership skills. Work with cabin and program staff to function as mentors for LITs. Evaluate LIT performance. Function as a part of the Summer Leadership team.

Staff Nurses:

Requirements:
Current RN licensure
Current CPR certification
Pediatric experience preferred
Heme-Onc experience preferred
Staff nurses are residential from the last week of May through August
General Function:
Provide primary nursing care to a group of about 24 campers each session. Staff nurses are also responsible to triage and treat acute issues among campers and staff. Staff nurses work under the supervision of the Nursing Director and Medical Director. Staff nurses work closely with cabin/program staff to adapt the Camp program to each child’s medical needs.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization with camping facility in Ashford, CT and development offices in New Haven, CT. Established in 1988, it is the first camp founded in Paul Newman's family of camps collectively know as SeriousFun Children's Network.
